Joining LASALLE turned out to be one of the most invigorating experiences for me - Kusal

Sri Lankan student Kusal Hewapathirana, 19, is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Graphic Design at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore. Kusal has this to say about his journey so far:

"I was interested in design from a very young age, and although apprehensive at the time, I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in design.

Joining LASALLE turned out to be one of the most invigorating experiences I have ever had. I can really let my creativity explode here and just be myself! The Foundation course was an excellent mixture of all aspects of art, from painting to sculpture, and really helped to secure my love for Graphic Design.
Now in Level 1 of my Design Communication programme, I can really begin to appreciate how much LASALLE's helping me. They teach you how to think and conceptualize your own ideas, rather than just teach you how to handle software.

Its not that hard to understand how this, along with the talent, knowledge and skills of top quality lecturers and a very diverse multi-cultural student body, makes LASALLE the leading art school in South-east Asia!

The projects are challenging and stimulating and we're provided with the most advanced facilities I have ever seen to help you with your work. Also, the College looks absolutely amazing with its awe-inspiring architecture!

I whole-heartedly encourage anyone with a flair for design to join LASALLE. It's a home away from home that's fun, exciting, mentally stimulating and to top it all off, you end up with a great design education! What more could you ask for!?"

Founded in 1984 by De La Salle educator, Brother Joseph McNally, LASALLE College of the Arts is a specialist tertiary institution leading contemporary arts education in design, fine arts, film, media arts, performing arts and arts management in the Asia Pacific.

LASALLE's integrated learning environment encourages interdisciplinary interaction and a holistic approach to contemporary practice. Students are mentored by international faculty who are creative practitioners and experienced arts educators.

Graduates include established artists at the Venice Biennale, designers acclaimed by the British D&AD, and more. Over 30% of LASALLE's population comes from 40 countries. Situated in the Arts, Culture, Learning and Entertainment hub of Singapore, the city campus is surrounded by arts and heritage destinations including the National Museum of Singapore, the National Library and Little India, food outlets and shopping malls - all within minutes of walking, taking a bus or the subway.

As an accredited institution of UK's The Open University, LASALLE's programmes are benchmarked against the best universities in the UK, making the awards internationally equivalent to a UK Diploma of Higher Education, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) or Master of Arts.

'O' Level graduates take a one-year Foundation programme to prepare for BA(Hons) specialisations. 'A' Level graduates with arts pre-requisites will be considered for entry into the BA(Hons).
LASALLE is a non-profit, private educational institution, operating autonomously with financial support from Singapore's Ministry of Education.
