Rebuild Pera Donor Conference to support university’s recovery
View(s):The University of Peradeniya will host the Rebuild Pera Donor Conference on Thursday, February 12 at 3.30 pm at the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), Colombo 7, bringing together alumni, industry leaders, government representatives, and well-wishers to support the university’s recovery efforts.
The conference will be held with the participation of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof Terrence Madhujith, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Ranjith Pallegama, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Nalaka Kaluwewa, along with deans of faculties, organising staff members, alumni, and industry partners.
The event will outline the Rebuild Pera Recovery and Rehabilitation Programme, initiated in response to the extensive damage caused by recent floods and Cyclone Ditwah, which severely affected several key faculties and facilities, including the Faculties of Management, Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, and Agriculture, IT Centre, student hostels, and sports and recreational infrastructure. The estimated cost of recovery and rehabilitation exceeds LKR 4 billion.
In addition to presenting recovery plans and funding priorities, the conference will also recognise the valuable contributions already made by alumni and industry partners, whose timely support has enabled the initiation of restoration work. The event aims to foster strategic partnerships and collective action to restore the University of Peradeniya as a leading national and international centre of academic excellence. (SJ)
