Lyceum Campus Faculty of Engineering Holds Industry Consultative Board Meeting
View(s):The Faculty of Engineering, Lyceum Campus successfully convened its Industry Consultative Board (ICB) Meeting on 16 January, bringing together senior industry professionals and academics to strengthen the relevance and quality of engineering education.
The primary objective of the meeting was to introduce the Faculty’s two newly launched degree programmes: Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Engineering – Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Engineering – Mechatronics Engineering. Discussions focused on reviewing curriculum relevance, identifying gaps observed in current engineering graduates, and gathering expert guidance to better align graduate outcomes with evolving industry requirements.
ICB members commended Lyceum’s long-standing contribution to education through Lyceum International School (LIS) and welcomed the institution’s expansion into higher education via the Faculty of Engineering. Strong emphasis was placed on the importance of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mechatronics pathways, along with the need to maintain high standards in academic delivery, facilities, teaching and learning practices, and assessment methods.
A key outcome of the meeting was the recognition of the importance of strong industry linkages to ensure graduates are well prepared to meet real-world engineering challenges.
The meeting saw valuable participation from representatives across the power and energy, automation, manufacturing, production, research, and technology sectors, including the Ministry of Energy, Ceylon Electricity Board, DIMO, NIKINI Automation, MAS Holdings, Brandix, Parakum Technologies, NCINGA, and LSEG Group. Academic perspectives were also shared by representatives from the University of Moratuwa, including the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering.
Looking ahead, the Faculty of Engineering aims to strengthen collaborative partnerships through industrial training opportunities, joint research initiatives, collaborative projects, and joint supervision of undergraduate research, fostering a strong and sustainable industry–academia ecosystem.
