University Dean qualification criteria to be expanded
View(s):The Education Ministry has decided to expand the relevant qualifications criteria in appointing persons to the post of Dean in universities.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has granted approval to amend the University Act No. 16 of 1978, to introduce a selection process based on merit.
“These proposed amendments enable to extend the pool of eligible candidates for the posts of Chief Study Administrator of the University system, and provides provisions to strengthen the institutional control,” a Cabinet statement said.
The Attorney General has provided clearance on the amended draft bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman.
The proposal was put forward by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, in her capacity as the Education Minister.
The draft bill is to be published in the gazette.
