Aspecial handover ceremony took place at Delta Gemunupura College, Kothmale, Nuwara Eliya, on Tuesday, October 28th, to officially launch a School Management System Software developed by Team Nurox — a group of second-year students from SCU. The event marked a proud moment of collaboration between academia and the local education community, showcasing how student innovation can directly benefit schools and the Sri Lankan education system.

The software, designed to streamline administrative and academic operations, was formally handed over to Mr. Manoj Senavirathna, Zonal Director of Education, and Mr. G. G. Kusumsiri, Principal of Delta Gemunupura College, in the presence of the School Development Committee members. The system is expected to simplify daily school management activities, including attendance tracking, timetable organization, management of student and teacher profiles, examination processes, and monitoring of student performance

Team Nurox — comprising Mahima Paseda, Buddhima Nirmani, Tharindu Samaranayake, Ishitha Bandara, and Milan Uluvita — developed the mobile-based application as part of the Project and Professional Aspects module at SCU. The project was guided by Mr. Anuruddha Abeysinghe, the module in-charge, while Mr. Pubudu Nallaperuma served as the project supervisor, providing technical and professional direction throughout the development process.

Speaking of the project, Mr. Abeysinghe commended the students’ commitment and professionalism. “This project required the development of a comprehensive application as part of their module deliverables,” he explained. “The students have done an excellent job in bringing the system into real-world use.”

The Principal of Delta Gemunupura College, Mr. Kusumsiri, expressed his appreciation to both the students and SCU for their contribution at the event.

In addition to its practical use, the project also serves as a valuable learning experience for the students, helping them apply theoretical knowledge to a real-world scenario. It highlights the importance of teamwork, problem-solving, and community engagement — qualities that are central to the SCU curriculum.

The handover ceremony not only marked the completion of a successful student project but also reflected SCU’s ongoing efforts to connect academic learning with real-world applications. Through such initiatives, the university continues to encourage innovation, practical experience, and meaningful community contribution among its students.
