Munchee National Volleyball Championship to set-off on November 22
The Munchee National Volleyball Championship for 2025 will commence on November 22, which will lead up to the National Super League with Sri Lanka’s top 18 teams in action. This was announced by the officials of Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVF), who have secured the assistance of Munchee, the flagship brand of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd, as the main sponsor.
The 2025 edition of the National Volleyball Championship will begin on November 22 with the Novices Championship, a segment of the competition that will be open for any team from across the island. The competition will progress towards the Munchee Division ‘A’ Men’s Championship and the Women’s Championship, which are slated to be held from December 2 to 6 at the Indoor Sports Complex in Wathupitiwala, Gampaha.

“This competition comes annually to display the true essence and strength of Sri Lanka’s national sport, volleyball. The period from December 2 to 6 promises the genuine rivalry among the country’s elite teams,” stated Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sajeewa Medawatte, the President of SLVF.
The top 18 teams competing in the National Super League will comprise of 10 men’s teams and eight women’s teams ranked among the top volleyball sides of the country. The 10 elite teams battling out in the Men’s Division ‘A’ are volleyball powerhouses Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Police, Ceylon Electricity Board, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Combined University Sports Club, National Youth Services Council, Maliban Sports Club, the champion team of Mercantile Super League and the runners-up Ocean Lanka Sports Club.
The eight teams vying for the Women’s Division ‘A’ title are top contenders, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Police, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Omegaline Sports Club and Mercantile Super League champs Casualline Sports Club and runners-up Hydramani Sports Club.
In contrast, the SLVF will begin the Novices Championship of the National Volleyball Championship on November 22, where the competition will be open for any entity that fulfills the competition requirements. This segment will be open for any team that represents sports clubs, government and private institutions and even schools. Any team will be entitled to field even national players, who have not represented the country after 2023.
“Our objective is to give each and every player the stage they deserve to showpiece their talent and capability and open the doors for them to reach higher levels,” Mahinda Bandara, the Vice President of SLVF, said.
It will be conducted at district level, from where two each of men’s and women’s teams will advance to their respective provincial championships. The two top teams from each province, which will sum up to 18 each of men’s and women’s teams, will qualify to compete in the final round set to take place on December 15 and 16. The Novice Championship will also serve as a talent identification process, placing them under the radar of the national programme of SLVF.
