Havies, backed by talent and sponsors, eye League title
Havelock Sports Club, who finished as runners-up last season, will be led by flyhalf Sandesh Jayawickrama for the upcoming SLR Inter-Club Rugby League Championship, as they kick off season next Friday in the curtain-raiser game against Navy SC at Havelock Park.
Skipper Jayawickrama will have the backing of his reliable mates, scrumhalf Mohamed Rifan, centres Mushin Faleel and Sudesh Jayawickrama, winger Jayathu Rajaratne, fullback Samuel Maduwantha, last year’s skipper and prop Faiz Abdullah, Azmeer Fajudeen, Shehan Silva, Sachinthana Vaidyanatha, Udara Lakshan, No.8 Chathura Dilshan, Shem Mendis and Janidu Frenando.

Havelocks will have the services of newcomers Adithya Ratnayake, the captain of Sri Sumangala College, Kandy, Sandul Gammanpila, who was impressive in leading Wesley College last season, Isipathana College skipper Thithrendra Dodangoda, and former S. Thomas’ College fullback Yehan Bulathsinhalage, who crossed over from Police SC.
Former Sri Lanka, Kandy SC, CH&FC and Vidyartha College flyhalf Saliya Kumara continues as Head Coach of the outfit, with former Sri Lanka, Kandy SC, CR&FC and Isipathana College hooker Anuranga Walpola as his assistant. Havelocks has secured the backing of Lanka Hospitals as medical partner, Flyhisports Turbo, Prima KottuMee and TVS Lanka to bolster their hopes of claiming the league title.
