Kegalle Old Pupils’ Association honour South Asian medal winning athletes
View(s):A special tribute ceremony organised by the Old Pupils’ Association of Kegalle (OPAK) for the athletes from the Kegalle District who won medals at the recent South Asian Athletics Championship was held at Kegalu Vidyalaya last Thursday. A vehicular parade was organised to bring the athletes to the presentation of commemorative gifts and awards, with smaller tribute ceremonies taking place en route.
The award recipients included, Chamod Yodasinghe of St. Mary’s College, gold medallist in the Men’s 100m, and his coach, Lalith Jayasinghe, Sumedha Ranasinghe, an Old Boy of Kegalu Vidyalaya and silver medallist in the Javelin Throw, and his coach, Lalith Liyanage, Damith Dharmasena of Mayurapada Vidyalaya, Mawanella, bronze medallist in the Hammer Throw, and his coach, Manjula Lindegedara, Rumeshika Rathnayake, gold medallist in the Relay event, and her coach, A.D. Nandawathie and Chamidu Sathsara of Tholangamuwa Central College, silver medallist in the Relay event, and his coach.
