The Second Innings Foundation will host its third annual softball cricket tournament at the Shalika ground in Colombo, with the intention of raising funds to support underprivileged schools from the rural areas. The tournament set to take place on October 25, attracts teams from across the island, and had been instrumental in providing cricket equipment to deserving schools beyond the reach from rural parts of Sri Lanka during the past two editions.

Last year, the Second Innings Foundation conducted its second edition – the Nidahas Cup – in February at the University ground in Colombo with the participation of 24 teams. The winning team had travelled all the way from Trincomalee, as the organisers managed to support selected schools with cricket gears.

“The Second Innings Foundation organise our softball cricket tournaments to raise money to buy new cricket gear and donate it to rural, underprivileged schools across the country who lack the equipment necessary to play. So far we have been able to donate cricket gear worth Rs.1.5 million to five deserving schools across the country,” noted Nirvaan Kanag-Isvaran, the President of Second Innings Foundation.

The organisers are currently accepting entries for the third edition of their softball cricket tournament, which as usual will open slots for 24 teams to compete as well as be part of their worthy cause to held the up and coming cricketers from the rural schools.
