Dambulla Thunders owner issued with indictment
The Attorney General’s Department has decided to indict Tamim Rahman, owner of the Dambulla Thunders, over an alleged match-fixing scandal linked to last year’s Lanka Premier League (LPL). The indictments will be filed before the Colombo High Court.
Rahman, a British national of Bangladeshi origin, appeared before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama when the Police Unit for the Prevention of Sports-Related Corruption informed court of the Attorney General’s decision. The Magistrate ordered the case to be taken up again on December 5.
The charges arises from allegations of fixing during the LPL player auction, which was conducted at a five-star hotel in Colombo ahead of the tournament. Rahman, who is currently out on bail, was previously questioned in connection with the case. Authorities said the indictment underscores Sri Lanka’s continuing efforts to clamp down on corruption in cricket.
