Newton steers BBK Partnership to thrilling win
An impressive bowling figure of 6-29 by Ranjithkumar Newton and supported by skipper Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, who bagged three scalps, helped BBK Partnership to record a thrilling last ball win by 7 runs over David Peiris Group ‘A’ in the 10th Singer-MCA Super League T20 cricket encounter at the MCA ground yesterday.
BBK Partnership, electing to bat, was helped by useful knocks from Sritharan Sarangan, Santhush Gunathilaka and Ananthan Rajan and posted a score of 168. Despite half tons scored by Tharinda Nirmal and Asitha Wanninayake and a 47-run stand for the sixth wicket, David Peiris ‘A’ succumbed to Newton and skipper Vijaskanth. David Peiris were bowled out for 161 runs as BBK Partnership recorded their first win of the tournament.
The match between Hayleys Group ‘A’ and Maliban Biscuits ‘A’, scheduled to be played in the evening was called off without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain.
