Lankan professors recognised with world historian awards
View(s):Two prestigious awards for historians were presented to Professor Ramani Hettiarachchi and Professor Rohitha Dassanayake at the Puducherry World History Congress held at the University of Peradeniya’s Faculty of Arts auditorium.
Professor Rohitha Dassanayake who is the Lankan Secretary of the Congress said that this conference was a landmark moment for the University of Peradeniya, where it was recgonised for nurturing a vibrant academic culture and forging connections with universities across the globe.
Professor Dassanayake said the congress’ success was due to the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Terrence Madhujith and the guidance of the Dean of the Faculty Professor Prabath Ekanayake. He said it was fortuitous that this event was hosted in Kandy – a city with centuries’ strong ties between South Indian and Sri Lanka.
He welcomed Professor Osmund Bopearachchi, Director of Research at the French National Center for Scientific Research in Paris.
Professor Dassanayake said this eminent gathering will further fortify the bond between Sri Lanka and India raising the academic cooperation to new heights.
Among the others who addressed the distinguished scholars were, Vice chancellor Professor Terrence Madhujith, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts Dr Prabath Ekanayake, Professor Osmund Bopearachchi.
