Dr. Malraj B. Kiriella was recently recognised at the 4th National Apex Awards 2025, organised by the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA), where he received the National Apex Award of Professional Excellence presented by Dr. Jagath Wickremaratne, Speaker of Parliament, at a ceremony in Colombo.
The award reflects a lifetime of achievement, acknowledging nearly four decades of Dr. Kiriella’s work in tourism, sustainability, and professional development, and his role in shaping policy, institutional growth, and international engagement, his office said in a media release.
He began his career at Air Lanka (later SriLankan Airlines) before joining the national tourism administration. Over the years, he has held senior posts including Director General of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, and Director roles in Research & International Relations, Marketing, and Standards & Quality Assurance. He has also served as a consultant on national planning and strategy initiatives, contributing to frameworks that continue to guide the industry.
