Disrupt Asia going global
Disrupt Asia, Sri Lanka’s annual start-up conference, an innovation festival aiming to brand the country as a hub for digital transformation, will be branded globally, officials said.
“We held it a couple of months back in Singapore and Delhi, India. We aim to do it in Dubai, US etc, in the future,” Heminda Jayaweera, Executive Director, TRACE, told The Sunday Times Business. He said the idea is to take the Disrupt Asia brand globally. “Taking Disrupt Asia global will help showcase Sri Lanka as an innovation hub.”
This year’s Disrupt Asia is slated to transform Colombo into a vibrant centre for innovation, and will kick off with Venture Engine, Sri Lanka’s leading start-up funding platform, providing start-ups with mentorship and exposure to investors.
Mr. Jayaweera said that already more than 60 foreign participants have been confirmed. “We aim to attract a diverse group of start-ups, investors, industry leaders, corporates, policymakers, etc.”
Mr. Jayaweera said that this year’s Disrupt Asia will also focus on aligning Sri Lanka for global innovation, with particular discussions on sectors such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, educational technology, and Greentech.
The Innovation Festival on September 19 will hail technology and creativity, containing interactive tech demonstrations and product showcases across various sectors, including FinTech, HealthTech, and AI.
Additionally, a curated sundowner event will feature world-class Sri Lankan brands, further enhancing the international engagement aspect of Disrupt Asia, Mr. Jayaweera said.
