Ven. Akuratiye Nanda Thera conferred Aggamahapandita title
View(s):Ruhuna University Chancellor and Maligakanda Vidyodaya Pirivena Parivenadipathi, the Ven. Akuratiye Nanda Thero, was conferred the prestigious honorary title of Aggamahapandita on Thursday.
This recognition was awarded by the Government of Myanmar during a ceremonial felicitation and honorary tribute event, “Yathiwara Sambhavana,” held at BMICH in Colombo.
The title “Aggamahapandita,” which translates from Pali as “foremost great and wise one,” was conferred upon Venerable Nanda Thero in recognition of his outstanding contributions to global religious service.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of the Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi. The Myanmar Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Marlar Than Htaik, officially presented the honorary degree to Ven. Akuratiye Nanda Thera.
The “Yathiwara Sambhavana” event saw a significant gathering of distinguished guests, including the Most Venerable Maha Nayaka Theros of the three nikayas, prelates, and foreign diplomatic representatives.
Notable political figures and religious leaders attended the event, including Colombo’s Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, and former Speaker
Karu Jayasuriya.
