Committee to review draft Industrial Relations Act to meet on Friday
View(s):A Cabinet approved committee has been established to review the draft Industrial Relations Act, with its inaugural meeting scheduled for Friday, August 25 at 8.30 am.
The meeting will be held at the Ministry of Labour, Conference Hall, 7th Floor, “Mehewara Piyasa” Narahenpita, Colombo 5, and the session will be chaired by Minister of Labour Anil Jayantha Fernando. The committee’s formation follows a Cabinet decision of August 4, 2024 which tasked it with a comprehensive review of the proposed act.
Members include the Secretary of the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, the Additional Secretary (Development) of the Ministry of Labour, the Commissioner General of Labour from the Department of Labour, Professor A Sarveswaran (Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo), Dr Ahilan Arasarathnam Kadiragamar (Senior Lecturer, University of Jaffna), Dr K B Kamal Priyadali (attorney-at-law), Lal Perera (attorney-at-law), Rusnan D V Dias (Attorney-at-law), G R Dilip Obeyesekara (Attorney-at-law), D V R Isuru Lakpuru (Attorney-at-law), Sathya Gunawardena (Attorney-at-law), S Ermiza Tegan (Attorney-at-law), Manoli Gonaduwa Niyadasa (Attorney-at-law), A P Janaka Adhikari (Attorney-at-law), K G J B Kurukohottun (retired Assistant Commissioner of Labour), Amarasena Adhukerala (Chaired Accountant, Finance, Tax & Investment Consultant), and Hettihanthange Thusithara Chaminda (Human Resources
