Canada Day and Founder’s Day celebrated at Pera Uni
View(s):The High Commission of Canada in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the University of Peradeniya, hosted a Canada Day reception at the Vice Chancellor’s Lodge to mark the 158th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation, as well as the Founder’s Day of the University of Peradeniya, both which fall on July 1.
The reception brought together consulate friends and partners, and university academics and their alumni networks for an evening of great conversation and the exchange of intellectual and business ideas.

High Commissioner and Vice Chancellor
The High Commissioner for Canada in Sri Lanka and Maldives Eric Walsh said Canada Day was an opportunity to reflect on the values that shape Canada’s identity; and by celebrating it they are strengthening people-to-people contacts, connected through strong linkages such as academic partnerships and development cooperation, not only on a government-to-government basis, but in friendships built by individuals, institutions and communities.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya Professor Terrence Madhujith who is also a Canadian alumnus, thanked everyone for attending the first Canada Day celebration out of Colombo, combined with the Founder’s Day of the university.
Central Province Governor Prof S B S Abayakoon, Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Ranjith Pallegama, and Gwen Temmel the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner also took part in the event.
