UGC probes illegal student migration
View(s):The University Grants Commission (UGC) is investigating a foreign university scheme run by a company based overseas.
The company is promoting a foreign university based in Ohio that is encouraging an illegal student migration, a senior UGC official said.
“An illegal student migration scheme has been conducted in the countries of India, Nepal and Sri Lanka by this university, and the UGC is conducting an internal investigation regarding this matter.”
Currently the UGC has conducted interviews with 30 students and they are now in the stage of creating awareness regarding the matter through the media.
He said the UGC only recognised universities that were accredited under the International Association of Universities and the Common Wealth Association of Universities and added the stated university was not accredited under either of these accreditations.
He also highlighted that the relationship between the university and the migration agencies were also to be determined and if anything goes beyond the limits of the law then action would be taken.
