The Josephians’ unique, mammoth and mesmerising feat in swimming

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10, is the Premier Catholic School in Sri Lanka and at the forefront of imparting knowledge, developing skills and inculcating positive attitudes and values in particular “discipline” and spiritually uplifting the Josephians to excel in Academic affairs, Sports, Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and character formation, thus producing a galaxy of multi-talented Josephians and valuable and worthy citizens, to contribute immensely to the developments of the College, society, Motherland and universe.
St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10, emerged as champions in the under 10, 12, 14 and 16 team events, thus becoming the Junior boys’ Champions, Senior boys’ champions and in particular overall boys’ Champions, for the 20th consecutive year, at the recently concluded
Sri Lanka Schools swimming championship event, held recently at the Sugathadasa indoor swimming pool, with a massive 562 points.
The Honourable Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya graced the occasion at the awards ceremony and distributed the prizes, including the Championship trophy to both the Reverend Father Rector and the young Josephian Swimming Captain of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10.
Rev. Fr. Ranjith Andradi, the 14th Rector and Principal of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10, expressed his profound gratitude to the eminent former swimming coaches, Mr.Shirley Abeysena and Mr.Ranil Gunasena and in particular the veteran and present head coach, Mr.Ruwan Manawadu and dynamic Assistant Coach, Dr.Kaushal Manawadu, for their unwavering commitment, dedication, discipline and devotion to duty in developing and uplifting the standards of the Josephian Swimmers, which is highly commendable and praiseworthy.
He also thanked Rev. Fr.Priyan S.Tissera, the Vice Rector and the Principal of the Primary School and Rev. Fr. Samesh Anthony, the Prefect of Games, for their valuable guidance, inspiration and dedication in further developing the young Josephians to excel in the sport of swimming at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10.
He extended his thanks to Mrs.Malka Jayasinghe, the former Teacher-in-Charge and Ms. Lavindi Perera, the present Teacher-in-Charge and Ms.Keshani Perera, the Primary Assistant Teacher for swimming, for their committed and tireless service in encouraging and professionally supporting the young Josephian swimmers to perform well.
He congratulated the Josephian swimming Captain, Master Thareesha Fernando and the members of the Josephian team, who won the Sri Lanka Schools’ Swimming Championship and brought glory and honour to their Alma Mater.
He extended his thanks to the parents, sponsors, donors, and well-wishers for their unwavering support extended to the College throughout the years.
