Miss England quits; ‘made to parade in front of sponsors’

Miss England 2024, Milla Fenney, has quit the Miss World pageant, accusing organisers of treating contestants like “entertainment” for wealthy male sponsors, and citing alleged exploitation and objectification at the hands of the organisers.

Fenney, 23, made history on May 16 by becoming the first Miss England in the pageant’s 74-year history to voluntarily exit the international competition. While organisers initially attributed her sudden departure to “personal reasons”, the beauty queen has now gone public with claims of mistreatment and emotional distress. According to The Sun, Fenney said she “decided to take a stand after being paraded in front of wealthy male sponsors.” She described the experience as demeaning and likened it to being “farmed out for entertainment.”

The atmosphere, she revealed, was emotionally taxing, with constant pressure to remain glamorous and sociable. Contestants were reportedly expected to wear make-up at all times and stay in formal attire, even during meals. “The final straw,” she said, “was being asked to entertain middle-aged men as part of a ‘thank-you’ gesture to donors. There were two girls to each table of six guests. It made me feel like a prostitute.”

Fenney’s withdrawal has sparked renewed debate about the treatment of women in beauty competitions. Her place at the Miss World finals will be taken by Charlotte Grant, 25, the current Miss Liverpool and official runner-up.
