Curtin Colombo Campus hosted an engaging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) workshop on August 29th, 2023, aimed at igniting the curiosity of local school students. The event, which brought together young minds and enthusiastic educators, aimed to foster a passion for STEM fields and inspire the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.

The workshop, held at Curtin Colombo was a collaborative effort between the university and local schools to provide an enriching and educational experience for students. Throughout the day, participating students had the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities and experiments across various STEM disciplines. The workshops covered a range of topics, including robotics, coding, and engineering, allowing students to explore their interests and discover the exciting possibilities within the STEM fields.

“For many students, this workshop served as a gateway to the exciting world of STEM,” said Proffesor Chulantha Kulasekere, Dean of Academic Affairs at Curtin Colombo. “STEM education is crucial in today’s rapidly evolving world. It equips students with problem-solving skills, creativity, and adaptability, which are essential for success in any field. We believe that introducing STEM concepts early in the school curriculum is vital to nurturing the innovators and leaders of tomorrow.”

Damian de Cruz, a participant from St. Joseph’s College, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I never realized how fun and fascinating STEM subjects could be. Although we have learned the theoretical aspects of these subjects, this was a chance for me to learn the practical side as well.”

Curtin Colombo Campus remains committed to fostering educational initiatives that promote STEM education and innovation within the community. This workshop is just one example of the university’s dedication to inspiring young minds and equipping them with the skills needed to succeed in a technology-driven world.
