Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) has taken steps to develop Under-13 squads in all districts with the aim of grooming young shuttlers for future local and international events. The revolutionary programme is fully backed by Mobil Lubricants and 3M Lanka. The task of developing the squads has been handed over to the regional committees with the support of the badminton associations of all 25 districts.

The first of such programmes was inaugurated at the Dharmasoka College Indoor Stadium in Ambalangoda, making it the first camp in the Southern Province. At the end of a selection process, a total of 30 shuttlers, 15 boys and 15 boys under the age of 13, will be selected for each of the district squads while coaches and coordinators will also be appointed for each squad.

The committees will observe any outstanding national level or emerging talents and they will be selected on the recommendation of the coaches or coordinators of the respective district.

The respective squads will train two days a week, and an additional day will be allocated for physical training.

The Under-13 district pooling programis, being carried out under the guidance of SLB President Rohan de Silva and is being coordinated by SLB Development Committee Chairman Roshan Gunawardena.
