The third raceday of the RTC VisitSriLanka Horseracing Season 2023 will take place today from 10.30a.m. at the Racecourse in Nuwara Eliya, with a fleet of four race events. After two successful raceday wins, all eyes will be on the blaze-runner Mauritania, owned by the Edwards Stables, who had won both main races with ease.

With the RTC Governor’s Cup 2023, due on April 15, the day following New Year, Mauritania will eye its hat-trick aiming to finish high in the only competition available prior to the topmost horseracing event of Sri Lanka in four weeks.

But today, the nine-year-old will have to face the challenges of the rest of the field, formed by Here and Now, Meheran, Another Ace and Legendary Princess, who will be vying to pocket the Osaka Consulate Trophy on offer in the term race of 1800 metres.

The day will set off with the Blackpool Hotel Cup with Cosmic Feeling, Crack of Dawn, Glittering and Queens Hall running in the Class II 1600metre race. This will be followed by the Masters Cup, the Class III race of 1400 metres where a close contention can be expected among Godsword, Admiral Nelson, Street Cat, Krabi and Zulu Fantasy, before the main race.

The final race of the day will be for the Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Cup, where Special Fighter, Fancy Face, Malee and Sri Lankan Queen will compete in the terms race for three-quarter-bred horses in a run of 1000 metres. After today’s race, Royal Turf Club (RTC) will conduct its blue riband event, the RTC Governor’s Cup on April 15, followed by the RTC Magic Million Cup on April 23 to compete the horseracing season of 2023.
