The Ritzbury-Thomians Invitation Schools Hockey 7s Tournament 2023 for boys of Under-20, organised and conducted by Matale Old Thomians Hockey Association (MOTHA) with CBL Foods International as the main sponsors, will be held at the Peradeniya University grounds on April 9 for the fifth occasion.

The Kandy branch of Matale Old Thomians Association will give their fullest support to MOTHA in conducting the hockey fiesta on a high note this year. With the approval of Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association and Ministry of Education, the organising committee has already invited the following leading hockey playing school teams to compete in this year’s tournament.

From Colombo Royal, S. Thomas’ Mt. Lavinia, Ananda, Nalanda, D.S. Senanayake and St Benedict colleges will take part while St. Thomas’, Zahira, Vijaya, Christ Church and Hindu colleges will vie representing Matale schools.

Trinity, Dharmaraja, Vidyartha and Kingswood colleges will be the schools competing from Kandy, while the solitary representation from Badulla will be made by Dharmadutha College. St. Aloysius, Richmond and St. Thomas’ Matara will be the three schools entering the tournament representing the southern region, while the sole representative from Jaffna is St. John’s College. Maris Stella and St. Joseph Vas colleges will enter the tournament from the Negombo region.

According to the Tournament Director, Indrawansa Herath, the winner will receive the A.J. Wijesinghe Memorial Challenge Trophy presented in memory of late Principal of St. Thomas’ College, Matale, while the first runner-up will be entitled to receive A.P.B. Harasgama Memorial Trophy. The C.K. Hulangamuwa Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the second runner-up while the best player of the tournament will walk away with the ‘Asian Hockey Star’-Ranjith Wijekoon Challenge Trophy. In the fourth edition played last year, St. Thomas’ Matale and St. Joseph Vas Wennappuwa emerged joint champions.
