The 3rd Rev. James Cartman Trophy encounter between Wesley and St. Benedict’s played at the P. Sara Oval ended in a tame draw yesterday. Wesley, resuming from their overnight score of 112 for 3, despite a top score of 71 coming from Uvin Perera, was bowled out for 185 in their allotted 65 overs. This is in reply to the Bens’ first innings score of 298 for 7.

Wesley, made to follow on with a deficit of 113 runs, were in deep trouble in the early stage of the innings before Disula Yapa, Rukshan Tharanga and Uvin Perera rescued the innings, and helped them to reach a respectable total of 260 for 8 at close.

The encounter was officially counted into the tally from 2020, despite the two schools have been playing each other as an annual traditional encounter for the past 127 years.

With yesterday’s outcome, all three encounters have now ended in draws. The Limited Overs encounter played between the two schools, for the Luke Shield, will be played next Saturday (March 25) at the SSC ground.
