A string of community service projects was implemented by the Sri Lanka Air Force to mark its 72nd anniversary.

The projects were launched on the instructions of Air Force Commander Sudarshana Pathirana, and Community Service Responsibility (CSR) projects were implemented by all Air Force bases and stations in the country, with labour and financial contributions.

One of the projects was the renovation of a public library in Seeduwa, and this area’s Free Trade Zone (FTZ).

After discussions were held with L. Nilanthi de Silva, present librarian at the Seeduwa public library, the renovations were conducted and around Rs 300,000 was spent on the project. A group of Airforce personnel worked voluntarily for about one week to renovate the dilapidated building.

After the renovations were completed, Ms. de Silva said more people visit the library.

Earlier this library came under the purview of the Board of Investment (BOI), and it was open till 8.00 p.m. on a daily basis, allowing visitors and library staff to borrow books and read in a relaxed environment.

Other CSR projects conducted by the Air Force recently were: Providing a mobile Library for Katunayake Maha Vidyalaya, renovating a building of Divulwewa Vidyalaya in Hindogama, painting and cleaning at Ranthisara Preschool in Divulankadawala, renovations at the Senkappadei Thiru Kumaran Primary School and renovations, painting works and repairing damaged desks and chairs at the Erukkalampiddy Muslim Maha Vidyalaya in Nagavilluwa.
