The examination to recruit 26,000 teachers will be conducted on March 25, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

He said that they expected to release the results by May and go ahead with recruitment.

Meanwhile, the National College of Education released 8,000 teachers this week. Accordingly, there would be 32,000 teachers available for service.

However, there would still be a shortage of teachers for Science, Information Technology and Maths, and arrangements would be made to recruit another 5,000 teachers.

Meanwhile, the transfer scheme of teachers has been resumed and some 12,000 teachers will be subject to transfers soon. “As a result, we would have sufficient teachers in schools,” he added.
