Etisalat to support Army rugby

The Sri Lanka Army rugby outfit will take the field with one of the leading companies in mobile telecommunication, Etisalat. They have come forward to support and strengthen the Sri Lanka Army Rugby team when both parties entered to a three-year agreement.

The Army rugby team has participated in Sri Lanka’s leading top division rugby tournament since 1962 and by now they are recognised as a challenging outfit in the Division ‘A’ Clubs tournament. The team has performed well over the years while contributing its players to the national teams. With the opportunities that opened up following the conflict Sri Lanka Army has been able to produce a strong rugby team within a short period.

The Army rugby team is coached by Ben McDougall, a Australian, who performs as an assistant coach and an athlete of the London Scottish team. The Army team is also strengthened by three players from the Fijian Army. The team maintains a rugby pool of 60 players as they engage in all tournaments of different divisions conducted by the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union.
