Naduni Gunawardena and Gihan Suwaris clinch Emperor open squash titles

Upcoming star Naduni Gunawardena and experienced Gihan Suwaris clinched open event titles in the recently concluded Emperor open squash tournament which was conducted by Sri Lanka Squash Federation (SLSF) and worked off at the Janashakthi squash complex.

Sri Lanka rank number two Naduni Gunawardena surprised everyone by defeating top seeded champion Mihiliya Methsarani in four sets to record her first ever women open title. The first set was equally contested and Mihiliya took a lead by winning the set at 12/10.

Thereafter Naduni came back very strongly and played a well control game to win next three sets at 11/8, 11/3, 11/9.

Men’s open final was tightly contested between Gihan Suwaris and Dilshan Gunawardena. Suwaris won the first two sets at 14/12 and 11/8, Dilshan manage to pressure Gihan on the third and fourth sets and won the sets at 11/8, 11/6. Gihan finished the final set at 11/6 to clinch the men’s open championship.
