Sri Lanka youth captain and the Bata-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer 2013 Kusal Mendis and Dharmasoka MV Ambalangoda schoolboy Ramesh Mendis who had a successful inter-schools cricket season slammed tons on day two in the Under 23 Division One cricket tournament encounters.

Kusal who was unbeaten on 56 on day one was in terrific form as he slammed his ton in just 61 balls which included nine boundaries and seven sixes helping Moors SC resuming on their overnight score of 88 for 1 end day two on 227 for 3 against Moratuwa SC at Braybrooke Place.

In fact it was a repeat of the first days play where only 12.3 overs of play was possible as the match got underway only after 2.00 p.m. and just under 12 overs being played on day two. In all only 24 overs of play has been possible on the two days.Kusal was supported by skipper Shehan Jayasuriya who made an unbeaten 86 with the pair putting on a valuable partnership of 132 runs. Shehan’s knock which came off just 41 balls included five boundaries and four sixes.

On the other hand a knock of 110 with 15 boundaries by Ramesh Mendis proved to be in vain as it could not prevent from Colts securing a first inning lead over Singha SC Ambalangoda at Galle.

The right hand batsman lead Singha SC’s fight back when they badly placed on 68 for 4 when play ended on day one in reply to the formidable score of 327 made by Colts.

Ramesh was involved in a 143 runs stand for the fifth wicket with Hasitha Madushan which gave them some hope. But with the dismissal of Ramesh they lost wickets at regular intervals and folded up for a score of 293.

The match between Navy SC and CCC at the CCC g round got off to a late start at 11.15 p.m. Navy SC who ended day one with a score of 126 for 7 went on to make a modest score of 218 thanks to useful knocks coming from Anushka Perera and Ishan Abeysekera. For CCC Maduka Liyanapathirana and Laskhan Rangika shared the wickets taking four wickets each. CCC in their turn ended the day on 185 for 4 with Geshan Wimaladharma making a top score of 83.

There was a long delay in the match between NCC and Tamil Union at the NCC. The first days proceedings too saw only 27.4 overs of play being possible with NCC made to struggle for their runs as they ended on 82 for 5.
