Beira Lake area to come alive for Tourism Day

World Tourism Day is to be marked on September 27 and 28, with activities centred around the Beira Lake, Economic Affairs Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said.

He said among the highlights would be an ‘arts wall’ where 2,000 children from 150 schools will be involved in a drawing competition. The children would be asked to draw what Colombo would look in another 10 years.

He said the city’s five star hotels would be putting up stalls around Perahera Mawatha and Navam Mawatha while special train services will transport tourists from Negombo, the Bandaranaike International Airport and Beruwala.

A laser light show and floats on the Beira Lake would be the attractions at night, he said.
