OTHM - a stepping stone to senior positions

The Organisation for Tourism and Hospitality Management (OTHM) is a fully recognised British professional membership and examination body. We are pleased to confirm that our establishment in Sri Lanka, with a number of centres is now listed to offer OTHM programmes locally.

We have worked hard with local employers and authorities to clarify the tourism and hospitality training needs in Sri Lanka; and to that end have established a number of local training centres to teach OTHM programmes as well as linking with local employers for work experience and future careers. Major employers such as John Keells and Jetwing tours are keen to be involved in supporting local OTHM centres as well as sending staff for part-time evening and weekend training.

OTHM programmes offer opportunities to a number of different target groups from 18 year old college leavers seeking training and a career in the industry to mature junior and middle management candidates already working in the industry who wish to use OTHM certification and membership as a stepping stone to more senior positions within their organisations. The third category of OTHM student may wish to part-qualify in Sri Lanka-perhaps taking the OTHM Professional Certificate (level 4) or the OTHM Professional Diploma (Level 5 Associate Member level) and then travel to an OTHM Preferred Partner College in UK for higher studies plus the possibility of additional work experience in UK or USA through the OTHM network.

Holders of the Ceylon Hotel School Diploma are also welcome to apply for associate or full membership with experience and also undertake programmes at Professional Diploma (level 5) or Professional Diploma (level 6) on a part-time basis. OTHM also have a recognised Postgraduate programme (level 7) linked to the MSc in International Tourism and Hospitality Management or an MSC in International Tourism with the universities of Hertfordshire (UH), London South Bank (LSBU), Thames Valley University (TVU) and Salford University (Manchester).

On the preservation of academic standards, OTHM examinations in Sri Lanka are external and supervised by the British Council. All examinations and projects are marked and verified in UK.
OTHM welcomes applications for membershibp ( Associate or full member) from Sri Lankans who already have senior management experience within the Tourism and Hospitality industry and wish to contribute to the future development and activities of OTHM in Sri Lanka.

OTHM are seeking a long term relationship with employers, government bodies and our Sri Lankan students, Associate, Full Members and Fellows .Our first elected Fellow was Mr. Sanath Ukwatte CEO of Mount Lavinia Hotel Group and we are also pleased to elect Mr. Vasantha Leelanande of Walker Tours (Executive Vice President John Keells)as our 2011 Fellow.

OTHM are holding a private reception at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo, to specifically network with key employers and Sri Lankan stakeholders in the Tourism and Hospitality sector.
