Lanka Walltile PLC (LWL), which is currently facing a crisis due to a strike by workers demanding wage hikes, is planning to issue notice to its casual, contract and probationary staff, according to officials.
“They’ll be requested to report to work on Wednesday else they'll be considered as having vacated their posts. We will also take appropriate action against other employees,” Mahendra Jayasekera, Managing Director, LWL told the Business Times.
The workers went on strike on August 12, more than 10 days ago over wage demands which could cost the company millions of rupees in lost production. He said the company is exploring ways to re-start the factory with new staff. "We will definitely re-start by next month with some new staff, "he added.
The company is also mulling imports to meet the production shortfall. The company is engaged in the business of manufacturing ceramic glazed floor tiles, with a market share of approximately 24%. |
