Tumal Creates History

Tumal Karunaratne of Asian International recently created history when he became the first Lankan high school student to be offered transfer status by University of Cincinnati (UC). What it means is that he would be beginning as a sophomore (2 year) in fall. In addition to amazing number of credit hours transferred (based on his excellent academic achievements) he was also awarded with the highest global scholarship of $ 12,000 per annum.

Tumal plans to get into ACCEND program where he will have the option of completing a MBA in just a year upon completion of his Bachelors in Civil Engineering. A student interviewed by the admissions committee of Cambridge & accepted to Imperial College, Bristol, Southampton & Nottingham universities had finally opted for US higher education due to following reasons; comparatively low cost, flexible academic program with widest possible choices.

His reason for selecting UC is its generous transfer of credits (for stellar academic achievers), impressive global scholarships making it perfect for Lankans and the famed Coop program providing hands on practical, paid working experience to its students at over 1,500 top US companies.

UC, with nearly 200 year old history & the oldest Coop program in US is ranked among the top 200 public research universities globally & is among the top 25 public research universities in US. UC was introduced to Sri Lanka by Priyanthi Dissanayake (www.scholarshipsforusa.com) in 2007 & since have played a key role in bringing the small island nation among the top ten nations of a total of 117. UC in turn considers Sri Lanka as a top emerging market & is very keen to look for long term collaborations & investment. Tumal is flanked by Jonathan Weller Director international admissions UC, Goolbai Gunasekara Principal AIS & Priyanthi Dissanayake.
