Electronic laws discussion at Biz Club

When The Sunday Times Business Club meets on Monday, October 20 at its monthly meeting, the topic for discussion will be issues relating to the Electronic Transactions Act of 2006 and its impact on organisations including the private sector.

Ms. Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe, Deputy Solicitor General of the Attorney General’s Department and also a member of the club, will make a comprehensive presentation on this law and its impact particularly in the context of SMS text messages and emails.

The ETA is aimed at recognizing and facilitating the formation of contracts, the creation and exchange of data messages, electronic documents, electronic records and other communications in electronic form in Sri Lanka. Under this Act, electronic contracts including offer and acceptance of an offer expressed in electronic form are given legal validity and enforceability. The meeting will be held at 6.30 pm at the Cinnamon Grand, the host hotel. The Club is also co-sponsored by Hameedia.
