Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will declare open ten new national schools during an online ceremony at Temple Trees on Tuesday.

The ten new national schools are among 400 government schools that will be upgraded to national school status by the end of May, Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said. The Government’s target to upgrade 832 Government schools to national school status. The ambitious project has been allocated the lion’s share of Rs. three billion out of the Rs. five billion set aside for national schools in the Education Ministry’s budget.

After being upgraded to national school status, each school will also be given a further Rs. four million to carry out more improvements, the Education Minister further said.  Damith Wickramasekara
