One of Sri Lanka’s premier Universities based on the picturesque hill capital Kandy is championing the ‘ Covid-19 Control Environment’ Certification process by putting the basic protocols in place like checking the temperature of the undergraduates, mandating hand washing and practicing social distancing with the new normal of the face mask stipulation.

The Rotaract President Lahiru Dissanayaka said that we have already moved placing twenty hand washing stations backed by a campaign called COVID FREE PERA

Given the high penetration of Digital media the campaign is rolled out on Instagram,  Facebook and Youtube channel together with an online Awareness Poster and video campaign said the energetic Rotaractor Dissanayake.

This is one such projects that we have started accross Sri Lanka said the Rotaract District Representative for Sri Lanka & Maldives Kasun Segera. There are in total 62 of them from technology applications to monitor people who are in quarantine to campaign that focussed on ‘ Safe voting’ to driving Covid safety projects at the community end in partnership with Ministry of Health officials said Segera.

This project is unique as we are making the the Peradeniya University a model environment to ensure students at a postgraduate level can continue their studies given that some of the best brains in the country come from the University of Peradeniya said Dr Rohantha Athukorala the Chairman Youth for Rotary Sri Lanka & Maldives.

The campaign started with a series of Awareness posters through social media as the 1st step of the Awareness programme“ We shared the basic idea of the project and all the safety protocols and measurements through posters and also we shared some poster series like “The physical distancing is not social isolation” which targeted university students’ mental health said Rotaractor Dassanayake. Under awareness programme, after all the preliminary discussions and awareness, we have formed a volunteer group (Task Force) who are to spread awareness at peer wise he said.

Driven by the Rotaract Club of Peradeniya, today the global organisation AIESEC in University of Peradeniya and the sports council of University of Peradeniya has joined the project to keep Peradeniya University Covid Free.
