Moratuwa University’s 41st General Convocation under COVID guidelines

The 41st General Convocation of the University of Moratuwa, which was held at Bandaranaike International Conference Hall (BMICH) this week, saw COVID-19 health regulations strictly adhered to.

Students and parents were seated according to social distancing procedures. Due to limited space, a group of parents saw their children receiving their degrees on a large, live streaming electronic display screen placed just outside of the auditorium hall.

The two-day long ceremony was held on August 24 and 25 in six sessions at the BMICH. At the ceremony, a total of 1877 graduates received their degrees. More than 380 of those students received postgraduate degrees, including 11 PhDs.

This year, the Faculty of Architecture had 332 graduates who received their Bachelor’s degree, while another 57 students received their postgraduate degree. The Faculty of Engineering, had 903 graduates who received their Bachelor’s degrees, while 268 graduates received their postgraduate degrees and diplomas, including seven doctoral students.

The Faculty of Information Technology, had 256 graduates who received their Bachelor’s degree and 36 graduates who received their postgraduate degrees and diplomas. The youngest faculty of the university, the Faculty of Business, had 25 graduates who received their postgraduate degrees at the convocation.
