Law is one of the most sought after career options in the modern world.

There are many different routes to enter Sri Lanka’s legal profession. Entering the legal profession after obtaining a LL.B degree from the University of London is a popular route that is taken by many prospective lawyers to enter the legal profession.

The CfPS Law School is a popular choice of many prospective lawyers to do the University of London LL.B. We spoke to Mr. Nanda Muruttettuwegama the Joint Managing Director of the CfPS Law School about their University of London law courses.

Q – How does one enter the legal profession in Sri Lanka through the University of London LL.B degree?

He or she has to complete the LL.B degree of the University of London in 3 years. If he is already a graduate in any discipline he can complete it in 2 years. Once he obtains the University of London LL.B degree he can sit for the Law College exams directly, without having to sit for the Law College Entrance examination which is one of the most competitive examinations in Sri Lanka. Thereafter he or she can complete the apprenticeship and take oaths as a lawyer.

Q – Why choose the University of London LL.B and not any other UK LL.B?

The UOL was established in 1858 and it is one of the top rated and prestigious universities in the world and in the UK.  The standard of the University of London LL.B is assured by the Quality Assurance Agency of the UK. The UOL  LLB is regarded as an ‘international gold standard’ in legal education  and it is a proven fact that law graduates who have graduated from the University of London have a greater edge over many other UK law graduates when it comes to career opportunities within the legal profession both here and aboard.

Q -Can a student do the University of London LL.B without going to England?

Yes. It is possible to do the entire course by following lectures at CfPS. The British Council conducts the examinations on behalf of the University of London and the papers are couriered to London to be marked by the same examiners who correct the papers of the candidates of the Colleges of the University. The LL.B degree is awarded by the University of London and not by the CfPS Law School.

Q – Why choose the CfPS Law School to do the UOL LL.B?

CfPS Law School is a unique institution that specialises in teaching law. We are also a registered centre of the University of London International programmes. Q – What is the cost involved in doing the University of London LL.B course?

For a student who is already a graduate, the cost would be approximately Rs 1.45 Million and whereas it would cost approximately Rs 1.85 Million for a student who does not possess any other degree. The above cost includes fees payable to the UOL and to the CfPS Law School and has to be incurred through a series of payments extending to all the academic years of the course.
