The Higher Education Ministry (HEM) will seek Cabinet approval to introduce a policy on foreign investments to set up branches of foreign Universities and Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in Sri Lanka.

“Under this policy, the Government will raise the minimum investment for the establishment of foreign Universities and HEI branches in Sri Lanka. Changes in the system on landownership and other guidelines to ensure the smooth operation of the establishments, so as to attract world ranking Universities and HEIs to set up their branches here,” said HEM Additional Secretary- Non-State Universities, K.R. Uduwawala.

He said they have already received inquiries from countries such as Japan, China, India, Pakistan, Malayasia and Indonesia to set up such branches here.
