An Auditorium for Bishop’s College, an aspiration of the Past Pupils’ Association became a reality with the dedicated collaboration of its Alumni and the School.  Bishop’s College Auditorium celebrates twenty five years and pays tribute to each and everyone involved in the planning, fund raising, building and operations, a culmination of untiring hard work, love and dedication.

The Bishop’s College Auditorium at 11, Perahera Mawatha, Colombo 3, Sri Lanka, a vision of the Past Pupils’ Association of Bishop’s College, became a reality with the cooperate efforts of Past Pupils, Parents, Staff and Students. The Foundation stone for the Auditorium was laid on December 2, 1986, jointly by the President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency J. R. Jayawardene and the Rt. Revd. Swithin Fernando, the Bishop of Colombo & Chairman of the School Board of Governors.

This was followed by the herculean task of fundraising and executing the project. Bishop’s College motto Non Sibi Sed Omnibus (not for one but for all) was applied by the PPA, PTA, Students and Staff to make an epic effort to raise the funds. The Auditorium was blessed and declared open by the Rt Revd Kenneth Fernando, the Bishop of Colombo & Chairman of the School Board of Governors, on August 13, 1994.

The Auditorium was built to encourage and sustain the Arts, Drama and Theatre of the School and the Country. The modern Auditorium is much sought after for Award Ceremonies, Concerts, Cooperate events, School events and more.

It was indeed a very proud moment for the Auditorium when it was chosen for the performance of the London Chamber Orchestra as a symbol of Britain’s participation in the fiftieth Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence. HRH Charles, Prince of Wales who was patron of the Orchestra, graced the occasion.

The Bishop’s College Auditorium continues as a much acclaimed venue for memorable and celebrated events in Colombo.
