With Gateway moving increasingly towards education through real life situations, the schools also provide greater opportunities for excursions and visits to places of educational value, both locally and overseas.

A true education is one where a student can witness knowledge gained in the classroom unfold in day-to-day life.

The students from the History Societies of Gateway College Colombo and Gateway College Dehiwala embarked on an excursion to Moscow and to St. Petersburg that would bring them closer to the stories etched in their typical History lessons.

The trip which lasted from the 21st to the 27th of August, allowed the History students to see iconic sites where history was made. Starting from the scenic Sparrow Hills, the students made their way to the Red Square and the St. Basil Cathedral in Moscow.

After making a pit stop at the busy streets of Arbat, the students had the opportunity of witnessing the amazing performances at the Grand Circus of Moscow. Before leaving to Petersburg, the students travelled to the politically significant seat of the Russian President, The Moscow Kremlin. At Petersburg, the students visited the Hermitage Museum and enjoyed a cruise along the Neva River, after which, they met at breathtaking Peterhof Palace and Park before travelling to the rural Shuvalovka Village.

The students returned home with a collection of memories and a great insight into Russian history and culture.
