The 48th Annual Sessions and 78th Anniversary Celebration of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon will be held on 10th and 11th June 2019 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The aim of the Annual Sessions is to bring forth recent discoveries in all fields of chemistry to the scientific community and to the public. This also aims to provide a common platform for academics, scientists and industrialists all over the country to network and engender novel research ideas and to promote collaborations for the advancement of chemical sciences leading towards a smarter nation. Further, this will provide a great opportunity to inspire and prepare the younger generation to apply chemical sciences to meet global challenges.

The inauguration ceremony will be held on 10th June 2019 from 8.30 am to 12.00 pm at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Foundation, Colombo 07. The Chairman of the Industrial Development Board, Mr Navin Adikarama will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. Professor Sudantha Liyanage, President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon will deliver the Presidential Address on this year’s theme “Steering Chemical Industries Towards a Smarter Nation” at the event. Presentation of Institute of Chemistry Ceylon and College of Chemical Sciences Awards will take place at the inauguration ceremony. The annual general meeting for Corporate members of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon will be held after the inauguration ceremony commencing 12 noon onwards also at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Foundation. The office bearers for the new Council year 2019/20 of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon will be elected at the annual general meeting. The technical sessions will be held at the headquarters of the Institute, Adamantane House, Rajagiriya on 10th June afternoon and 11th June. The Annual Sessions are expected to embrace more than 150 academics, scientists, industrialists and students from all over the country.

Prof Priyani P Paranagama currently the Director, Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo and Chair and Senior Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of Kelaniya will be inducted as the 82nd President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon at a ceremony to be held on 28th June 2019 at the Golden Rose, Boralasgamuwa. Prof Ajit M Abeysekera, Professor Emeritus, University of Sri Jayewardenepura will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. The induction ceremony will be held with the participation of distinguished invitees including Council members, Past Presidents and members of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, academics of University of Kelaniya and University of Sri Jayewardenepura, academics of the College of Chemical Sciences of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon and well wishers.  The induction ceremony will be followed by the annual dinner of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon.
