Peradeniya University Workshop on Sustainable Environment Management

The Centre for Environmental Studies (CES) conducted a Workshop to share the good practices adapted by the Peradeniya University’s    Faculty of Science, in Chemical Waste Management and Waste Paper Recycling, with the other Faculties, on May 17, at the PGIS.

About 70 participants from Environmental subcommittees of various Faculties, representing Academic, Technical and Administrative staff attended the event.

Dr Atula Bandara, Dr Thilanka Gunaratne and Mr. Saumya Bandara shared their experiences in improving Environmental performance of the Faculty of Science, through a very active Environmental Management committee. University of Peradeniya Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Upul Dissanayaka, and Deputy VC Prof. P. Karunaratna highlighted the University’s commitment to secure the ISO14001 Certification and upscale the Green Matrix Index (GMI). CES Director of Training, Prof. S.P. Nissanka and Deputy Director Prof. Parakrama Karunarathna briefed on the initiative taken by the CES in this regard and CMO Dr. P.M.A. Samarakkody explained the steps to be taken to upgrade the GMI ranking.
