GCE O/L NICs in jeopardy due to delays

The Department of Registration of Persons, last week, called on all schools and pirivenas to immediately send in their Applications for candidates sitting the GCE Ordinary Level examination, to avoid delays in processing.

Commissioner Viyani Gunatilake said the Department has received only around 200,000 Applications this year, with over another 100,000 yet to be received.

He said that, despite sending circulars to all schools and pirivenas in January, requesting that schoolchildren’s NIC Applications be sent before March 31, many institutions have not complied.

Moreover, he said that, Applications already received have not been accurately filled, with some are sans supporting documents. “We have returned several Applications to the schools,” he said.

Mr. Gunatilake requests that, when filling Applications, to be ‘accurate’ and follow all procedures in the circular, and attach relevant documents for the smooth processing of the cards.
