Besent House emerged overall winners

Besant House with an aggregate of 251 points clinched the championship at the 127th Anniversary sports meet of the Musaeus College held at the NCC Grounds last week. Higgins House occupied the 1st runner-up position with 239 points. With 201 points and 190 points by De Abrew and Olcott Houses ended up in the third and fourth positions respectively. In a colourful and well organised sports meet, Dr. Mubarak, the present President of National Academy of Sciences, Sri Lanka graced the occasion as chief guest to give away the awards to the winners.

Higgins House performed well in the drill display

Witnessed by a large gathering of old and present students along with parents and well wishers the drill display and the march past caught the eye of everyone present at the grounds. Dressed in colourful clothing, the tiny tots of Musaeus College making their movements in style to the music received the biggest applause. The march past was another event which added colours to the meet.

Higgins House won the first place in the Drill Display with De Abrew and Olcott Houses occupying the second and third spots. Besant House walked away with the glittering award for the march past. De Abrew House finished behind to stay in the second place while Olcott House occupied the third place.

In the highly competitive track and field events the lasses of the Colombo Seven school displayed a high standard with every runner displayed a fine technique in running. The judges too had a busy time as most of the races ended in close finishes.Vinuji Gunawardhana odf De Abrew House won the Under-12 Championship while Sanuki Gunarathne of Besant House emerged champion in the Under-14 category.

In the Under-16 event Nethmi Peiris of Higgins House emerged winner in the Under-16 category and in the all important Under-18 and Under-20 championships were won by Thishakya Gunasekera of Higgins House and Sayumi Silva of Olcott House respectively.The four houses Besant, De Abrew, Higgins and Olcott were named after the founders of this esteemed educational institute for girls.
