Ajantha House, with a whopping tally of 340.5 points, won the overall championship of the Gothami Balika Vidyalaya Sports Meet 2019, held at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo on January 24. Following the overall winners were Saranath House, who ended up in second place with 269 points while Sanchi House was placed closely behind at third with 258 points. Thakshila House had to be contended at fourth place despite raking up 246.5 points.

Memorable moments of the sports meet

Sanchi House’s Sudhoni Senesa was adjudged the Best Athlete of the Sports Meet for 2019. The most striking segment of the day were the gymnastic display and the colourful displays by the school’s western and eastern bands.

The Invitational Boy’s 4x100m Relay event was won by Royal College, while Ananda College and Mahanama College were placed second and third respectively. Yashodhara Balika Vidyalaya won the Invitational Girls’ 4x100m Relay event as Ananda Balika Vidyalaya and Kolonnawa Balika Vidyalaya settled in at second and third places respectively.

The event was successfully conducted by the collective effort made by the school authorities as well as the students of Gothami Balika Vidyalaya. The project was spearheaded by the Principal, D.A. Subhashini Dematagoda while the Deputy Principals, Sumedha Samaradivakara, Gayani Wasalaarachchi and L.K.R. Sudarshani, Assistant Principals Nishanthi Gamage and Lasanthi Muthukuda, Organising Committee headed by the school’s Sports Administrator K. Harsha Perera and her team of Punya Gunatilleka and Achintha Nirmani.

In addition, leading the students of the school were the Head Prefect Abhilashi Wijesinghe and Deputy Head Prefects Chamidya Baddewithana and Amandi Lakshani Nagodage and Sports Captain Kalyani Wasana and the two Deputy Sports Captains Kusali Nimaka and Samadhi Weerasinghe, who made all efforts to conduct a successful sports meet. The event was graced by Director National Schools, W.M. Jayantha Wickramanayake as the chief guest.
