Four Sri Lankan athletes stole the lime light at the 16th WKI International Karate Championship 2018, organised by the International WADO Federation and All Nafai Wado CAI Karate Association tournament held in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Sri Lankans won two gold, two silver and a bronze medal in a highly contested event.

Dinara Vithana was the most outstanding

The most outstanding was Dinara Vithana of Nalanda College, Colombo who exhibited his prowess in the sport to emerge winner to win a gold medal in the junior category. Vithana showed that he is a complete athlete with an excellent technique and stood above others in his event.

H.A. Manaka Dilshan, a student of Palave Navodya School, Palaviya and Ayesha Randima Roshan of St. Andrew’s College, Puttalam too exhibited their skills at the event by finishing runners-up to win silver medals in their respective Kumite events. Both youngsters with superb foot work were appreciated by the crowd present at the occasion.

In the Senior category M.P.D. Pradeep Illangarathna, a black belt 3rd Dan made use of his experience to clinched the Gold medal. The other contestants failed to read his style to make an easy passage to the championship. Illangarathna won a bronze medal in the Kumite event finishing in the third place.
