Sixty-seven children of Sri Lankan working abroad have been offered scholarships amounting to Rs 1.6 million by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE). Under this programme, the SLBFE offers annual scholarships to schoolchildren whose parents have registered with the bureau and gone abroad to work. For this year’s programme, students were selected from Jaffna, Mullativu, Kilinochi and Mannar.

Sixteen students who had passed the Year Fve scholarship examination in 2017, 47 students who had passed the G.C.E Ordinary Level examinations in 2016 and four students who were selected to universities in 2016 were among those who received the scholarships.
Scholarships worth Rs 20,000 each were awarded to those who had passed the Year 5 scholarship examination, while scholarships worth Rs 25,000 and Rs 35,000 were awarded to those who had passed the G.C.E O/L and A/L examinations.

Arrangements have been made to allocate Rs 80.3 million to offer more scholarships to 3,203 children of Sri Lankan migrant workers. The third phase of this initiative began yesterday.
