Clean Bandit have taken the top spot on the UK singles chart with ‘Solo’. The UK’s new No: 1 song features the vocals of the US singer Demi Lovato. ‘Solo’ is an EDM track with a pumping disco beat. It is the fourth chart topping song for the UK band after ‘Rather Be’ with Jess Glynne in 2014, ‘Rockabye’ with Anne-Marie and Sean Paul in 2016 and ‘Symphony’ with Zara Larsson in 2017. ‘Solo’ is yet another standalone release by Clean Bandit but is mostly likely to make it eventually to their next album. The chart topping song is co-penned by group members Grace Chatto and Jack Patterson, Demi Lovato, Camille Purcell and Fred Gibson. For Demi Lovato it is her first appearance at the No: 1 position on the UK chart. Her previous big UK hit was ‘Heart Attack’ which peaked at No: 3 in 2013. Clean Bandit is a trio comprising Grace Chatto and the brothers Jack and Luke Patterson.

The British synthpop group Years & Years have returned to the UK top 10 singles with ‘If You’re Over Me’ which rose from 12 to No: 8 this week. The UK singles chart is to get a shakeup in the way it is compiled. From 6th July the chart count will include streaming and downloads of official videos and audio clips. This will be in addition to current make up of streaming, downloads, CDs and vinyl.

Sir Paul McCartney went down memory lane as he appeared on Carpool Karaoke for James Corden’s The Late Late London show. Taped on 2nd June, the 28 minute segment saw Sir Paul go back to Liverpool with Corden on a nostalgic trip, starting by placing their autographs on the famous Penny Lane street sign, visiting the local barber shop where Paul took his haircuts, his childhood house where he wrote most of the Beatles songs with John Lennon and then taking the public by surprise with a live performance at the Philharmonic pub. The Carpool with Paul McCartney is perhaps the best in the series and is worthwhile viewing for any fan of the music of the Beatles.
